I think they both lost. One sole 'Wisest' survived

There is a definite 'aggressive yet gentle' vibe here - it does work well with the story, with the duality of the robotic-sounding buzzy instruments and the softer stringy/flutey synths.

Not exactly a positive vibe, and I'm not personally too keen on the angry buzzing synth or the voice samples, but I dig the way the tune progresses and shifts fairly nicely.

Not (yet) a 'keeper' for me.

A fairly simple lead melody but it all works well. The 'break down' seems perfectly timed at the end as did the starting crash.

The switch-up at 1:26 was nicely done.

Some of the levels of instruments sound grating through headphones when there's a lot going on - like some could have been softened a tad.

Also, I'd have personally liked a shorter 'chill' after the shatter sound near the start and also a few more instruments, countermelodies and rhythms going on at times.

A fun song to listen to, but not a keeper for me.

Thanks for your review! Glad you thought it was a fun song to listen to ;)

Companion Cube track. Could be cool for a montage.

The synthetic noises and beats work well with the computery theme.

Though the melody and beats are a bit repetitive, the accelerations and progression as you add more layers works really well.

I could really see this providing the bgm for a montage piece dedicated to the game.

I felt like there could have been a little more progression after 0:34 and until you wrap it all up. It feels like for 20-odd seconds, there's a dearth of new ideas.

A tiny criticism and it remains a cool piece. I might try painting some images to go with this.

More 'realistic' instruments please.

You are obviously a master at utilising these programs and the way you flow the melody through a bunch of variations, returning to the basic theme but changing it up and all the complementing countermelodies, rhythms and beats is wonderful.

My only criticism is that the main instruments sound a little too 'retro techno'ish for my liking. I'd personally have liked to hear this with more realistic instruments, but that's my personal preference.

Sitting on a mountain top, a lone figure watches the morning stars twinkle and fade out of sight. As the beats begin, the crack of sunlight appears, opens wider and the light rolls over the forests and ocean, revealing the vista before the silhouetted figure. Birds awake and fly into the morning sky. A ship moves towards a distant island.

After watching this, the figure picks up his bags and carries onwards on his journey. Walking down through the forest, the bugs appear, slivers of light on their bodies.

The sun is now high in the sky and a ship moves through the rolling waves. Fish jump out the water and the wind blows on the sails.

After a long journey, the lone figure arrives at a strange scene - caves high in a clifftop, accessible by ladders. Climbing up, he finds a single note weighed down with a rock - "catch me if you can".

He moves back through stalactites and stalagmites, peers through the mouth of the cave and sees the sun disappear. Tomorrow holds more adventure.

Really cheery melody. Uplifting vibe,

I enjoyed the upbeat cheery melody. It's something I could almost imagine hearing in a club if it weren't for the slowdowns.

I felt the 'buzzy' synth was a bit too overpowering, but enjoyed the fast pace and variations on the basic melody. Some stereo effects were cool, but having the constant panning from left to right started to feel a bit overused, boring and 'cheap' after a while when it was the focus.

Conversely, when there was loads else going on (like near the end), it just made for an added adrenalin rush.

I liked the various instruments you've got - crowd, piano, some bubbly noises, whistly synth...

Just maybe lower the buzzy synth's volume a tad, don't use the panning so much throughout and maybe keep up the tempo.

A probable keeper.

Ta.

Thanks for the criticisms, a very helpful review.
Cheers, man.

Do more with the faster bit?

The melody you dive into at 0:30 - I'm sure there's a TV show tune that sounds really like the section from that part. Like the 0:12 - 0:40 part. It just really reminds me of another unknown tune, making me wonder if you got inspiration from that.

In any case, I do love that part and though I guess you didn't really play this, it sounds cool and I like the drum sounds as you roll just before the tempo change.

I kinda wish you'd kept the faster bit for longer and made more of that section.

I'm not too keen the ending or middle slow parts though - it works, but I kinda feels lik it overwhelms my favourite part - when you dive into the fast rhythm. I'd just like to hear more of that section and be able to enjoy that part for longer.

Should be great when it's more 'real'

I really like the accelerating tempo you've got here - really fun build up, though the ending is a bit sudden.

Guitar and drums could sound a lot more 'real' but you're aware of that, given your comments.

If you're still changing melody, I'd suggest making it longer, adding more experimentation with the melody once the guitar gets going...

Also, it feels like you could vary the velocity of piano fingering a bit more - it could have helped define the mood a bit more.

The key crit from my perspective is that the guitar should have more variations and feel more 'loose' and less 'structured, perfect and computery' if you know what I mean.

Stay funky

Really like a 'musical alarm'

Though I did notice some shifts as you added and subtracted layers, I did get an overall sense that it was just too repetitive.

It definitely sounds kinda like a musical alarm when it reaches higher pitches and conversely the pounding beats that start 1:10ish make it sound like a club techno piece for a moment.

Parts of this might work for a level in a shooter or action game. Like maybe something thematically similar to Super Metroid's opening or maybe you're escaping from some enemy spaceships?

But as an instrumental song to listen to for enjoyment... it was too repetitive and unsettling for my liking.

Personally, I think you should turn this into a shorter loop, (1 minute-ish) maintaining the theme you dive into at points and maybe reducing the number of quieter moments (like 1:00). Just an idea.

Might be cool as is, but the level'd need to be long to justify this length of a loop.

Too short for a song, intro ruins loopability

A quality melody to remix. I don't really remember the tune so aren't sure how much you changed, but it sounds good!

I enjoyed the drum rollsand the beats were well placed, making it sound more dynamic, without turning it into a soulless techno piece.

My one criticism is the length and the lack of a seamless loop - the intro works well when listening to it for the first time, but the whole thing seems too short for a song and the intro kinda ruins the loopability, so to speak.

Still an enjoyable interpretation to listen to though.

Congrats on #200!

Not to my taste, would work well in someone else's

...game, maybe.

The melody kinda gives us a fast pace, but it's not really something upbeat, that I'd want to dance to. It's more nervous, more suited to a shooting game... kinda Pico-ish maybe...

I wouldn't want to hear this in a club where I was dancing, but can totally see it working well in a game that was TRYING to put you on edge.

Minor quibble is the lack of variation or development. The voices make it more interesting at the end, but throughout, it seemed a tad samey.

I guess as a loop for a game's level, it might work well so it might be worth making that?
