This is awesome.

This is an awesome track!

I love the energy in the vocals and the slow part - so often just a section of a song to tick a box - is really well played, with a great swing sorta tempo and lovely guitars.

All the instruments are really well played and I could listen to this over and over! When my mp3 player is working again, I'll definitely stick this on for a while.

My only complaint could be that the vocals are a tad hard to understand, but really - I wouldn't want them any other way.

My other complaint might be that the lyrics aren't amazingly funny or ingenious.

But really, I'm searching for criticisms. This is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I had a look at your myspace info. So this is an LA-based band? Maybe I'd be able to get tickets to see 'em when I do my USA 'tour'. That would be cool...

In any case, I wondered how I could hear more from this band.

Hmnm...

After hearing this and your PCD: wait a minute remix, I get the feeling for your 'style' and get the impression that it's become more routine and less experimental than I thought.

I'm gonna guess these are basically a fuckaround.

A few parts were kinda annoying, like when you just quickly fiddled with the volume.

The slow downs and speed-ups were fairly well timed and I like the fact that you're messing around and being creative with these tunes.

But I think you could've gone a lot further in making something a bit more original.

I don't much care for the original tune, and whilst this was vaguely interesting and amusing, it wasn't a real improvement. Just... different, I guess.

Seriously, I urge you to keep fucking about with these tunes, as some of the creations are fun to listen to, but upload them to another site. NG doesn't want copyrighted stuff.

a tad gimmicky, but fun to listen to. Good work!

You didn't really change it a lot - I mean, it's the song running from start to finish, just with a bunch of effects applied. I mean, normally when I listen to a remix here, I'd expect a bit of cut and pasting, a few original beats of whatever... a bit more reorganising...

Having said all that, when I stuck on the original MP3 to compare, I immediately noticed the tempo change that your version has undergone. It's kinda like more of a 'club mix'.

The way you cut off the bass did sound kinda gimmicky, though it did add interest.

The scratch effect at 1:27 was kinda jarring.

It's a gimmicky remix, but then the song itself was always a bit of a gimmicky hook. Essentially, you've made this song somewhat fresh, fun and a tiny bit funky again.

Good work, though maybe another track spliced in, for extra beats, could have done some good? Just throwing in an idea.

Anyway, like I implied, it was fun to listen to and I was bopping along when it came on the NGAP Radio.

Unfortunately, The NG Audio Portal doesn't allow copyrighted tunes though, so I'm flagging this entry. Downloaded for my own enjoyment and voted 4 though. You should get your stuff up on another site, maybe!

Anyways, stay funky.

Hahaha!!!

Well, I chuckled pretty much constantly for the first loop.

Noticed the loop was a tad off. Good, but could be better.

The background beats are kinda repetitive, but nicely produced. Are those beats yours?

Anyways, it's just a 'comedy' song. As the other reviewer mentioned, the 'Yayyyy!' is brilliantly funny! I've had it on repeat for a while (winamp) and it still makes me chuckle a bit.

I love the voice and also like the slightly muffled quality of the beat. It adds to the feeling that it was done in a bedroom, coming from the heart.

It's mediocre, musically speaking.

But it makes me smile and chuckle.

8/10,3/5.

Actually, I had no part in this. FoD made it, sent it to me, and told me to submit it as a collab.

Because I don't argue with pure hilarity, I did it :)

cool sound, but could be 'richer'

The start is fairly relaxing, with great sweeping synths and a cool little melody on the xylophone-type synthy instrument.

The electronic feel works well there.

When the guitar comes in, it's timed really well - just the right amount of 'suspense' and 'release'.

The guitar does sound a tad fake - maybe experiment with the way you record it to get a richer sound?

The drums are a bit dull. You let up at the right moments, but a blind loop (well-timed though it may be) for the majority of the track just gets boring. It'd be good to hear maybe a few rolls, maybe let us hear the ride a bit more or whatever...

I do like the creative variations in the guitar melody.

It's definitely a cool sound and a bit different to what I normally hear, yet very pleasing.

I just think a few of the layers could be improved to give it a generally richer, fuller sound with a tad more variety.

6s loop pasted over and over for 2:34.

Again, this seemed like you copy and pasted a 6s loop loads of times, then didn't bother making any changes.

I did hear a small change-up around 1:39, but given the jaw-dropping lack of diversity elsewhere, I'm gonna assume this was an error.

The basic loop you've got here is pleasant to listen to. The background instruments - the rumble kinda like a thunder and the choir/string sound - both sound great. The lead melody is vaguely pleasing.

But as it progresses, it just starts to get more irritating than anything.

If you'd had a few changes, actually mixing it up, sampling your own track and using that to create new rhythms and melodies, like you did at 1:35-1:40, then this might be cool. Or maybe if you quietened the guitarry sound a bit and added some piano with a bunch of grace notes.

As it is, it just seems astoundingly repetitive and would have been better represented as a loop of a few seconds, suitable for folk to use in menus or whatever.

I'm giving a '6' for effort as whilst the basic mixing and instruments were pleasing, copy/pasting it without changes like that smacked of laziness.

This is a starting point - not a finished piece!

Needs more variations and tracks in the mix

Well, again you've used loop repeated shitloads of times for the bones of the work.

You do mix it up with the volume here and there and I think I heard a couple of instruments being added to the mix.

You still needed to do a lot more with this - change it up more, maybe add another instrument...

The basic beat is kinda fun to listen to at first, with a vaguely funky vibe. But by the ending (which I like, btw) I was really tired of the whole thing.

As a loop in the bg of something else, this could be great. As is, though, it's just boring to me.

And the basic 'sound' is kinda generic too.

my main emotion is one of mild irritation

This kinda reminds me of Irish jigging music, all distorted.

It seemed like you basically just had a 7s loop, then copied and pasted it 30 times. Pointless and needless.

The distortion on the strings kinda got really annoying after a while.

It is definitely a unique sound though - the main thing this has in its favour.

Maybe had you toned down some of the distortion a bit, kinda making them less harsh and actually had some variety, it might be fun to listen to.

As it is, it's interesting but my main emotion is one of mild irritation.

Made me pause and smile. Beautiful medley.

Your piano skills are superb. Is this all played 'live' over a single session?

How did you record it?

I enjoyed the way you changed the tempo of the tunes to fit into each other.

You add an extra sense of emotion into some pieces with your compositions on the left hand and your various changes in speed and strength here and there.

You really seem to have a lot of respect for the original music and it shows.

I really can't think of any way this could be better. It's a haunting piece to listen to, and if I'd actually managed to finish the game by now, I'm sure it'd have even more nostalgia than it does. I had heard all but one (I think) of the tunes though.

I love how you start/end with tunes we'll all know. Also, the grace notes at the end are beautiful, yet nicely restrained.

Made me pause and smile.

Setu-Firestorm responds:

Yes, all of it was recorded. It's not "live", but it is realtime. It was recorded in a MIDI setting and I played it all in one sitting, then fed it through a VSTi.

Thanks for the review.

Short, gets irritiating, but funky-tech and A menu

It's got a cool sound. I like the instruments and the notes of the melody.

The drums are cool and work well kept in the background.

The 'grinding' noise was nicely crazy and added a kinda funky vibe.

It'd work really well for a lot of puzzle game menus.

My only slight gripes are that it's a slightly imperfect loop and also that the 2 'repeats' within the 4s seem to be identical. Seems like it could be half as long and with a better loop, it'd sound exactly the same!

Great loop. Bit short and simplistic but - as you say - it'd be cool for a menu.
