Brilliant style.

Although I've seen a couple of other attempts at it, no-one's been as successful in making a mock-children's story with depraved material.

Your voice is excellent as is the simple tune you've used. I loved the way you played a version of the same song at the end, but with distortion added.

I liked the wee asides (Billy's father, Bees, fun fact) and the whole thing made me smile.

Well done on making such an excellent piece of entertainment and thanks for sharing it with us. :)

P.S. Since you asked - yep, I found the 'easter egg'.

mlaskaris responds:

Thanks for the excellent review!

I'm glad somebody noticed that the credits music was actually a punk/metal version of the background theme. I actually wrote the song on guitar and had to "translate" it to keyboard. I'm going to do something musically similar to that in Episode 2.

Ow...

This made me giggle, which in itself is an achievement.

The lovely animation, appealing colours and nice music are by the by.

toxicbomb responds:

yay!

Enjoyable enough while it lasts.

The music is excellent and the morphing clay is a treat to behold.

I was a bit dismayed to see that the 'teaser screen' has little to do with the movie - I was expecting them to maybe turn into fully fledged things with arms, heads and facial features.

However, watching it a 2nd time, I realised that what you'd done was fairly enjoyable to watch in its own right.

I didn't realise during my last review that you had made both 'Clay needs tea' and 'WT and then some'. You've definitely progressed with your claymation.

Whatever you do, I urge you to keep going and keep your zany humour and excellent voices in your animation.

DrNeroCF responds:

well thanks, does that mean I'm getting that review of bubble wrap now? hehe

Brilliant

From the opening shot, shown while the movie loads, I thought that this may well be more than the average claymation movie.

With more imaginative jokes, a better 'plot' and better selection of music than the average claymation, this stands above the crowd.

The voices were really excellent. I liked the models you made too, although the features didn't really come across in the movie. Maybe using different colours of clay would be the next step?

I wasn't too keen on the way the sword-fighting was sort of dragged in with only a hint of an excuse, but the resulting animation was rather lovely to look at.

Still, maybe an accompanying battle-cry to show the red-guy's anger would have made it slightly better?

In any case, I really enjoyed watching it and will heartily reccommend it to others.

DrNeroCF responds:

thanks for the awesome review! I hope you'll go review my latest, bubble wrap, too, speaking of battle cry... heh

OOh.... Dr shroud in trouble...

As I've hinted before, this is real B-movie fare, but I suppose that's what you were going for?

I just realised we still don't know what the deal with his medication is...

There wasn't any distortion in the voices in this episode and the animation is also steadily improving.

Wow, I'm so glad I don't have to wait for months for the finale. :)

robfeldman responds:

Hey Bezman-
Thanks for all of your comments on all the episodes. I appreciate the time you took to provide an honest (and flattering) evaluation. Yes, I always aimed for a B-movie, 60's superhero look (I do come from a comic bakground). The look, feel and exectution of Dr. Shroud will improve as I go along and we slowly uncover his past, present and future. Thanks again.

Best,
Rob

Good beginning, but it looks like you got bored

The song wasn't something I instantly liked (although it was enjoyable enough to listen to) but the graphics were rather nice and I was quite impressed when the spaceman took away the boy and it looked as if there was going to be a top story to go with the music 'down with love' style (as in the flash animation).

The ending was kind of amusing but it didn't actually make me chuckle.

To me it kinda looked as if you had a vision, didn't properly storyboard the animation, sorta did it as you went along making some top stuff and then kinda got bored towards the end and just slapped together an ending.

It could have been truly excellent, but it's just not as entertaining as it could have been.

Still, at least this way it's far more memorable. :)

AsthmaticHamster responds:

ehehe...
Damn...
You got me all figured out...

Yet another superb entry from Knox.

When I watch one of your voice overs, I feel I'm practically guaranteed a laugh, and that's rare for any series or author.

It maybe wasn't one of your best and I wasn't too keen on the ending, but there were plenty of silly laughs along the way and much smiling and grinning.

Even in your (slightly) weaker moments, you still outdo so many others.

Thanks again, for such quality entertainment.

Knox responds:

awww no problem hunny bunny :P

A bit boring

The graphics were fairly nice, but it all got a bit tiring the way you used the same 3-second loop and the same setup for every character.

The secret was... interesting. It raised the overall by a mark.

I have a feeling this is more of an in-joke than anything.

PimpMasterKDOG responds:

Nice graphics!!! *blush*

Nice enough ending.

Nice enough ending. Not completely successful at answering all questions, but does a good job of bringing the series to a close.

re: your frame rate.

If you had a higher frame rate, motion tweens would look a lot better and I don't see why it'd take you any more time.

Just change the frame every 12th frame or something but then have the extra frames to provide fluidity when you're motion tweening, or if you want to fade something out etc.

To be honest, I'd rather a story with a good plot was released faster rather than have to wait for the author to make quality graphics.

And I understand that you'd want to get your stuff out faster.

But graphics are part of the experience.

Jon-Mahashintina responds:

Thanx for all your reviews. I'll see if i can do what you suggest. Most of the next series has been completed and i'll get it up on NG soon. Hope you keep watching.
Jon.

Really good start... promising.

I really like what you have so far, but will limit the score, purely because this could turn out to be rubbish as the series goes on.

(Sorry, but I'm a realist.)

The plot so far, though cliched, really grasped my attention and I'm eager to find out what happens and what the story behind the bag is.

My one criticism is that the heart (I presume that's what it's meant to be) doesn't really look like a heart.

Also, the graphics aren't the best, and the bit with the flashing colours behind the phone box looks a bit tacky.

However, the graphics in general are definitely good enough to do their job and the music is excellent, as were the voices.

I loved the main tune, as well as the way you used it throughout.

How good this truly is depends upon the rest of the story.

I'm really looking forward to the next episode! When will that be out, and how many episodes do you think this will take?

americawasted responds:

Dear Realist,

A lowered score is understandable. The rest of the story should be out within two weeks. I will submit the whole episode as one movie.

The music was created directly for this flash piece. I didn't do it, a friend did, so I agree with you the music is excellent.

Best Regards,
