Could be a video/animation...

Knobs are twisted. Alien fingers push sliders, buttons, quietly working to launch their spacecraft. Suddenly it launches - an inaudible cry of celebration and the flying saucer glides past asteroids, small planets and bizarre creatures that dwell in the vacuum of space.

The spacecraft glides down to a foreign planet at 2:10 - earth! People from nearby hear the commotion and one by one to inspect the machine, then an alien pops out... and begins dancing. Through the language of dance and pantomine, the alien explains that they need red things. Or some other object, I'm not sure. People agree to help the alien and bring buckets of paint. Whilst dancing. Then at the end the alien shoots off again.

Or maybe the alien does a little puppet show before flying off again. I'm not sure what he was doing on Earth. It became a little hazy at that point to be honest.

Anyways, awesome tune. The start's a little slow, but when it gets going, the melody and slower bg instruments work brilliantly.

As for criticisms, I can only suggest some bells or something when the tune picks up for the 2nd time? Just an idea. No real crit.

great work.

Actually, upon listening to it for the 2nd time, I think the alien might be playing with the people. I shall muse on this. Would you mind if the animation that may or may not materialise makes no real sense?

Needs a finish.

I wasn't too keen on the instruments you started with, but around 17s, I loved the beats you snuck in and the melody shift is awesome. It turns into quite an aggressive little tune.

The melody is vaguely repetitive and I'd hope that if you were continuing this, the last few seconds with their funky shifts signal some sort of development.

It is good to listen to so far and I was really feeling the beat, but it just lacks a satisfying conclusion. Given this sort of build up I was really hoping for it to maintain the tempo for a good couple of minutes.

Looking forward to hearing the next track from you, if it'll be in this vein.

Interesting acceleration/deceleration.

At the start, the beat's nice and gentle and the 'windy/airy' notes in the bg work.

Quite a drastic change around 1:47 and then 2:48 for the speed up/slow down. It's quite rare to hear an acceleration like that and it's both refreshing and nerve-wracking simultaneously.

Loops really well too, whilst also providing a nice 'finish' if listened to in iTunes.

This could be really excellent for a game where stuff happened on the beat. You know, like an abstract avoider/collector, or a shooter or something with different mechanics, but set to the rhythm.

Actually, I might do that after Fruity Fish, parhaps starting at the 56s mark to jump into the action. I like the number of instruments and the development of the melody.

Nothing specific to complain about. It's not a tune like most, thanks to the varying tempo, but that's a good thing! All I can' think of that would make me raise the score is maybe even more development and one or two more instruments. But really, when I start rating things 8/10, it's awesome as is and to get a better score, you need to kinda show me things I don't even realise I want, yknow?

totally hear the 'warp'.

The way you switch up the rhythm of the melody is kinda cool.

The end beats lead well into the starting 'airy' sound. However, I don't think it sounds great as a loop - I just find that when a loop of this length has one part that stands apart (here the end/start) it just makes it more obvious it's a loop and makes it slightly more annoying after extended periods of time than it otherwise would be.

Also, generally, I'm not to keen on that kinda attention-grabbing fast instrument.

Heh, yeah, glad you semi-liked it.
Feedback much appriciated! I'll keep workin.

Enjoyed 1:25-1:50ish, but didn't like it generally

I soon got weary of the constant crotchets played by the left hand. Just because it's the 'bassline' doesn't mean the rhythm has to be absolutely constant and unyielding!

I liked it when you brought in some chords rahter than single notes around 0:20 but just couldn't get over the boring left hand rhythm!

I don't think the beats worked for the style and even the right-hand melody got pretty repetitive when compared to the work of some of the old masters.

Having said that, I loved the centre section, where you abandoned the left hand and had those sorta 'pulsing' synths for about 20s. It had a sorta 'flying' feel. Maybe you could pursue that in another song, using that same pulsing synth and having a slightly more legato melody?

But for your next classical song, I suggest you just concentrate on the piano and try to make the left hand play some more interesting rhythms and let the right hand evolve the melody a bit more.

SoR2 ending-esque vibe. Major chill.

This song really reminds me of the Streets of RAge 2 ending. Just the whole vibe. The simple, measured piano. The Jazz-bar-esque beats, the soft stringy thing (is it a violin synth?) that flits in to give it an extra element...

The main piano melody is brilliant - though rhythmically simple, it's got a complex, meandering melody.

My one crit is that it feels like another instrument should creep in around 1:42. Maybe that singer you're after? That would boost it a bit imo, give it an extra dimension.

Best of luck finding someone to collaborate with.

In the meantime, I'm keeping this on my iTunes.

As an aside, is that a real piano (as opposed to a keyboard)? It's recorded flawlessly.

I wasn't keen on this.

I felt the 3 verses were too similar in melody. And the basic melody, in my opinion, was a bit boring and uninteresting.

I felt your voice just wasn't 'powerful' enough to match the number of effects and whatnot that you have on those guitars.

I felt the lyrics seemed a bit meaningless - they may be meaningful to yourself, but I just didn't 'get' anything from them.

I felt the first few seconds of the instrumental part sounded cool, but I didn't like it when you added the retro square-wave-type synths.

I do like the instrument that comes in around 2:00 and then 2:35.

I commend you for messing about, mixing real/synth instruments and obviously a bunch of others enjoy this. I, personally don't.

Maybe you're best off catering to those who do enjoy your stuff.

LenardNotLenny responds:

Well, I thought it at least had a rockn beat.

One guitar. And it wasn't powerful enough? I wasn't expecting that. Dude...? That thing was set to about as powerful and distorted as possible without making it mush. I thought the problem was the opposite.

Yeah. I'm rewriting it. The lines are staying the same, but more will go inbetween em. It'll have actual meaning.

There were no retro wave-type synths.

The organ was Garageband. And then there was a bit-crushed guitar solo over that.

Thanks.

Well, even if you didn't like it that much, you gave me some nice feedback. Thanks for reviewing.

Perfect for a computer-synthy rhythm-based game.

This might work well for a rhythm-based game of fixed length, with computer moves following the beat. Maybe needs to be longer?

I love the synthed chords you've got going for the beat and all the sustained notes that really make it sound like we're immersed in a computer world.

The last 20s seems like a retread, but assuming the melody continues to evolve for the remainder of the tune, I'm eager to use the full thing for something!

Looking forward to hearing the full version.

Technically great, amazing vocals. Not my bag thou

The vocals sound awesome and really professional.

At about the 45s mark, when the BPM doubles up, it seems like all the instruments are from a NES synth or something. Real retro video-game-type vibe. (Though the presence of the vocals obviously offsets that a tad.)

It all seems well produced and as others are saying you matched the original closely, well done on that.

I guess I just don't care that much for this vibe. I find it a tad lacking in emotion and neither could I see myself dancing at home to something with this fast a BPM.

Great mesh. A little build=up.

I actually liked the build-up at the start. The guitar melody for the main loop is excellent - a tight sequence of notes and fluently played.

I like the way it builds up - people waking, going to work, starting the day...

But despite the synths you've got going, this just gets kinda boring and dull after slightly over a minute. You really should add on another melody at points, to add to what you've already got there. I like what sounds like repeated notes on a piano, but it just seems to me you could've again had more going on after it got going.

Know what I mean?
