'twas alright.

I was kinda hoping for some variation on the theme rather than just another re-hash.

The problem with Space Invaders is that a) it's too monotonous b) it's been done too many times before, making it even less interesting to play and c) because so many of us have played it so many times, those earlier stages are just a bore to play unless there's something different going on.

Disregarding that, I didn't like the way you have the invaders start a little lower each time - once they start right at your defences, it seems a tad unfair when you get such a stupidly small amount of time to dodge bullets.

You can actually do high score on NG, btw (since from a previous review it sounds as if you may think you can't).

XSDSX responds:

You can, can you? Too bad you didn't included an actual example of this somewhere on the site, because every high score board I've seen doesn't work.

I didn't like this.

Reasons:

1 - The levels start off way too hard. I really think that the first level in any multi-level game should be something pretty simple, to get people used to the controls etc. and help teach them the basics. This just discourages you from continuing.

2 - Sound is always nice. In a professional game, it's pretty much a necessity.

3 - I think the exit's hit-box is a bit stingy.

4 - I don't think the controls feel 'right'. In level 3, going up a hill hardly decelerates you at all and it just feels 'wrong'.

5 - Level design seems average and mundane at best.

6 - Restarting the whole game after losing at a level later on is mega-frustrating.

7 - It's stupidly easy to cheat. At least it showed me what was in store and saved me the bother of having to play any more though.

However, the graphics and presentation are fairly nice.

Nice update.

It's a nice update of Missile Command, with some funky audio and visuals.

The added elements add to the game without overbearing it. (In any case, when I finally got the chance to play the original arcade machine a year ago, I was shocked by its low quality.)

However, it still ends up rather boring after about 11 levels, and I can't see anything different after trying the 'hard' option.

Maybe having more weapons, enemies etc. come up would have been nice?

Also, you don't tell folk how the scuds are earned. That would have been nice...

Too repetitive.

The graphics were really nice, but the sound was irritating as hell. (Really should have had an 'off' button.)

I managed to destroy the helicopter once in about 4 goes, and to then have to play it over from scratch again seems like a piss take.

I mean, it wasn't specially fun the first time I managed to do it, so why should I do it again?

Having this split up into different levels may be a step towards a better game.

Like the breakable BGs. :D

Having so many things break is a nice touch, but the game itself seems to be a bit limited - the patterns of the red dude always seem to be a bit too similar...

Still, I suppose I'd have to wait until playing the final game before commenting on something like that.

You should really show how many you've shot, missed and your %, with a target % for each level - some concrete target to attain.

Could be great.

Decent game.

The death animations were amusing in a morbid way and it was entertaining to see each new box, but it just seemed far too limited.

Kick-ass music.

Space Invaders may have great historical significance, but just doesn't hold up as a fun game these days.

I was expecting something more to have been added.

I did look nice, but why no music during game-play?

And I thought The Fulpsters didn't want all these clones...

A perversion of a beautiful game.

It seems messed up that you'd start and rank Z and that randk C would be better...

The idea of making the background flash so the maracas are harder to see is an interesting one, but the game just shouldn't have the SdA references.

To be anything resembling a rhythm game, the maracas should at least come in some sort of beat. The characters don't go well at all with the red/yellow flashes and it just looks garish.

Wasn't much fun imo.

Brilliant!

Castle cat 2 was probably my favourite from you up till that point, but has already been usurped in my estimation... by Castle Cat 3!

There are a few flaws, but they're outranked by the flair and imagination you show.

The niggles...

The control is kinda slidy. If you so much as turn around, you end up sliding about 1/2 a cat in that direction. It just feels slightly awkward at times.

Pretty much all the game is really easy, apart from the flying cacti and the end boss. (Took me 2 attempts to work out the boss was a fixed pattern and didn't aim at me...)

When you lose a life, there should be something telling you such - some voice, some sound, some flash... something.

Siegfried and row were mundane to fight as it was just a case of staying in the safe spot and waiting for them to float within range.

In the shops, you shouldn't be able to buy a leopard skin if you have one, nor buy hearts if they are already full.

The good...

The shops are nice as now I feel as if there is a rreal point in getting the items. It was fun to 'level up' and get loads of cannonballs.

The various stages, with different themes, are great. First the run-down desert, then las vegas, some chinese thing, then the boss.

The honeybee sidequest was a great irrelevant thing - slightly trippy, and a nice injection of variety.

I loved the casino machines - more going on on-screen is good, as long as it doesn't hinder your view.

The game was fun to play, and whilst I was quite frustrated having to play most of it 3x, it was fairly enjoyable, even then.

Possibly my favourite Flash creation of yours.

Probably my favourite out of the ones I've played so far anyway.

Weapons were nice, lens flare was brilliant, up until the shellfish was maybe a bit too easy, flying fish bit seemed a little down to luck, I was disappointed to see no score tally at the end of this one.

Also, when you go back a screen, you can sometimes be hit instantly by a car... a very bad thing.

I think I did pretty well - I think I collected and destroyed everything...

This seemed a nice inventive game and it looks like you had fun making it.

In any case, I had fun playing it.
