Maybe change the lens flares.

They looks too spherical just now.

Try making them just a slightly transparent solid circle, or maybe with an alpha gradient round the very edges.

I have to say though, I'm almost shocked at the score that this - a pointless test - has gotten.

Ah well, folk obviously like it, so you should probably develop it.

TheComet responds:

Yeah, I rushed the lens flare a little bit, it's just that I was unsure how to make it since I don't usually look into the sun with my telophoto lens camera :P(Eye BBQ >.<)
I already have an idea for it...
It'll seem somewhat like a mix of madness and Yu-gi-oh, Magic, DBZ, (and any other good action things) and maintain 3D animation for the entire movie. I may make a series with episodes and such, a little unsure.

meh...

Whilst the drawing was simple, the poses and lip animation were effective.

The joke itself made for a mildly entertaining watch I suppose, although there were a couple of words towards the end I didn't understand.

Subtitles (specially optional ones) would have been nice.

Beefy1 responds:

damn!
i was going to put in subtitles, but i thought I might have said everything clear enough!
drat!

Good for a first movie.

The animation could use a bit of work, but it looked far better than my 1st movie did.

You at least made some attempt at giving the characters a decent character (hehe) and injecting some jokes. Whilst it wasn't exactly rivetting or something I actually laughed at, it was a mildly enjoyable watch.

I think you know where to go from here. Just work on having more jokes per minute and try to improve your art and script through practise.

And remember - longer isn't always better. ;)

Stay funky,
Bez

Nylo responds:

I'm really glad the character persona came off well, it gives me lots of room to move around it in future episodes. I'll keep your recomendation for more jokes per minute heavily in mind, thanks =)

Top movie, but I just didn't find it funny.

I notice you haven't replied to any of the folk asking what programs you used to make this. Are you trying to keep it some sort of secret? Because I really can't think why else you wouldn't reply...

In any case, it seems like a quality movie.

The graphics look rather slick and professional - specially the man's face (although maybe a tiny bit devoid of much personal style, I feel).

The whole thing is fast-paced, interesting to watch and only lasts as long as it needs to - always a good thing.

The music was excellent and the beats started at just the right point.

The only reason I didn't enjoy it any more was basically because I didn't find the underlying humour that funny. Sure, it was interesting to watch and the graphics alone stunned me for the first few seconds.

Also, whilst I agree with the underlying message, it seems to me that having a slightly more realistic movie might be better for convincing people of that.

It's a quality movie but I simply don't find it funny.

SecretAgentBob responds:

I have answered close to 100 e-mails from people asking me what programs I use to make my movies, and when someone asks in a review I usually take the time to e-mail that person directly to make sure they get my response. If I don't answer someone, it's probably because I haven't had the time to yet, but I do make an attempt to answer every question asked.

Quick review

- a mildly enjoyable watch overall.

- nice graphics.

- However, the text at the start was a bit hard to read. (as was the text at the end - fill in the shape, don't just do black outlines against a dark bg... ugh.

- Set the bgm to stream.

- don't have the movie start straight away. Have a play button.

- I take it you blurred the pictures in the middle in photoshop?

- Also, did you use a photoshop filter for the start and end pictures?

- Not great, but it did look nice and sound fitted well.

- you should really make a longer movie with an actual plot as your graphics, whilst nothing amazing, are somewhat pleasing to the eyes.

FireHound responds:

Seems like a fair review to me...
The text in the beginning was indeed a mistake of me. And yes, I blurred the pictures in photoshop... added some filters on the beginning picture...
Well, version 1.02 is a bit longer... Guess I advice you to see that one then...
But anyways, thanx for the hints and the review

Not enough to it...

I appreciate that making longer movies is difficult and time consuming, but the biggest problem with this is its length.

The graphics are pretty decent and the bgm fits well (although it should have been set to stream).

At least the ending's slightly different... other than that, it does seem a bit too derivative in places and there's not any time spent setting the scene.

If you had a text intro, maybe as a pre-loader, that could make it a bit more interesting if it was well written and concise?

FireHound responds:

I believe this was my first movie with a 'story' so I know it's rather bad. I'm trying to make a long movie now, but I really have to restrain myself for not putting it on newgrounds right away...
But anyways, I'll try to remember your points for the future...

Is it rotoscoped?

It looks as if you've traced the drawings of the main character and only drawn the enemies yourself. Not that that doesn't take skill...

I do really like the style, as it all looks rather funky and different. However, it is too short and lacks any plot at all.

Also, if you had some colour, it might make it more visually appealling. Even if it's just some red when things are cut down.

My last criticism would be that the music loop is too long, thus making the filesize larger than it should have been. You should set bgm to 'stream' so that it automatically cuts the parts after the animations stops.

It does look nice and different though and I'm interested to see more from you.

FireHound responds:

Well, I don't know what 'rotoscoped' means so.. guess not :) Ah, traced the drawings. No, we didn't... I actually DREW every line you see... sounds like fun? Well, it isn't :) We're.. or, we were working on a movie in this style with a plot... but... don't think we'll finish it soon...
Set bgm to stream... eum... mmkay... I'll find out what 'bgm' is then hehe...

Nice graphics. :)

I did like your drawings - specially the way you drew the villain. However, there really wasn't much going on in terms of plot and I didn't understand the ending at all. What was that female supposed to have said to the villain.

Nice to look at I suppose... if next week's joke is any good and the graphics and tune are as good as this this week's, it'll be a great episode.

Good luck,
Bez

JamesLeung responds:

Well i dont think there is supposed to be any point in this, but if i get more reviews like this ill put a joke in :)
Thanks.

Wow! Weekly top 20 on your first attempt!

Good show. :)

I think it might have been nicer if you'd not just used solid colours for everything, but at least this way it's got something of an individual style.

Although the animation is simple, it is rather nice to look at.

The music is well-suited and the voices are decent. However, the loud bit of music at the start drowns out some of the voices. Next time, try to get a song that stays more consistent in volume.

'Counting The Days' was also an excellent choice of song for the end.

The story was an enjoyable watch, perhaps because it deals with a subject that we'll all have experienced. However, I think if you kept at it and made a series so we could get to know the characters, it might be a more enjoyable watch.

Will you be making more movies with the same characters then?

CopyCatDS responds:

Well, first off, the solid characters are part of the style i use. I also have been told about how the music gets too loud for the voices to hear, i'll get this cleared up. And as for the final question, i will be making movies with the same characters, but every episode will hopefully include a new main character along with the four. Also from time to time, i may change the looks on a character, so that they may look different for the next episode...

Thanks for the good comments! and enjoy my movie!

Nice little trailer.

I liked what was shown in the trailer, and would like to see this turned into a full movie. You never replied to any of the other reviews saying what your decision was or when a full version may come out. Care to enlighten us?

The graphics were really nice and I liked the whole pace of the thing. The way the movie ended, with the screen turning white and the gun-shot of-screen was excellent, and the lack of violence on-screen made it slightly chilling.

I wasn't too keen on all the fonts you used though - I would have maybe preferred it had you kept to a more coherent style within the text. I also didn't really like your 'coming soon'.

Although I don't want to sound too negative, I didn't much care for the background story you wrote in your comments - it just sounds too unoriginal and slightly derivative of Spawn. Stopping criminals to piss Satan off? Banished to earth for 'some reason'?

If anything, surely the criminal killing himself would please Satan, as he'd have more victims to torture in hell?

Maybe you could change the plot to that - Satan's trying to grow an army so his helper needs to kill the meanest muthas so they can go to hell?

In any case, I'd still like to see the full thing and would be interested to know when, if ever, it's likely to come out.

Darkn3ss responds:

Sorry, i lack the energy to make this now. The idea was too weak for anything decent to come of it without ripping off spawn or anything.
