Keep trying?

Well, I have to agree with the other reviewers - this does suck. Still, My 2nd submission (I spent 2 weeks on it) was pretty bad, so I can understand that it takes time to get good...

Maybe in using the halo name you were setting yourself up for a fall? After all, many consider it the greatest fps ever and you obviously haven't done it justice.

The graphics are poor, as is the animation. The last nail in the coffin is the fact that there's no story here or any interesting action.

It's hard to make interesting previews or trailers... The movie will obviously be better, but I suggest that in future you maybe think a bit more about the action/story and maybe you could make something enjoyable to watch?

Keep trying,
Bez

Jepette responds:

Yeah you're right and all the other too. I had hope that it is popular but not. My English is bad because I
am French. I would not make a film of then!

Obviously took a lot of work...

I'm sorry to say this of something that obviously took a while, but it just wasn't that interesting or funny.

I kept watching until the end, and whilst it was far from terrible, I just didn't really laugh (or even smile) at any of the jokes.

Sorry.

Still, the graphics were decent (although you should make the mouths and eyes change more) and the music was well-chosen.

Stay funky,
Bez

MaRMiTe responds:

bah

I loved your artword & animation!

The song was pretty good, but it was your artwork that made the movie for me.

There were a few things about the 'plot' that I didn't get though.

Why did the guy put on fake glasses? I presume he wanted to disguise himself, but why?

Also, why did the author of the book wink at the guy when he was hiding?

If you could explain those 2 things to me, it'd be very much appreciated.

Still, it doesn't have to make perfect sense. After all, it's a music video and besides - as I said at the start, the artwork, animation and just the general style of the movie were excellent. And the fact that the plot made any kind of sense and was at least interesting to watch made this movie truly great.

BADMAN responds:

Well, in the movie 'Down with Love' Ewan's character is a ladies man who pretends he's a nerdy astronaut to win Renee's Zellweger's heart. She on the other hand is a newly famous feminist author, who is on to his scheme.... The movie should be out on video soon... and hopefully it will all make sense.

A couple of issues I have with the movie...

1) There's no explanation of how he got out of the club.

2) Just after he goes to ammu-nation, the black square which slowly goes to 0% transparency doesn't cover all the graphics. Either make it larger or - if you want to do a widescreen bit as I think you might - have some black or white rectangles at the top and bottom on a layer at the top.

Other than that, it's a decent movie. The graphics were alright, but could have been better, as was the script and sound.

The 3D objects were mildly impressive though, if only because I wouldn't be able to do them.

In short, it was alright, but could have been better.

Maybe try working on a more interesting script or develop your artistic skills even further for the next movie?

ColinMatthews responds:

i didnt script it , and at this point theres not gonna be a second one

Really enjoyed it.

Watched it, enjoyed it, watched it again.

Whilst limited (being almost all skating or jumping) it's still a great watch and one I was pleasantly surprised by.

I was really impressed by the bit when one of you jumps off the skateboard, walks over bycicle stand whilst the skateboard goes underneath, then jumps back on.

For me to enjoy another one, it'd have to be a bit different.

But this was good stuff. :)

toxicbomb responds:

That was a friend. He is very testy. Thats all im gonna say. thanks for your review, and im glad you liked it.

The meaning of nbh?

After watching the animation twice, I still have no idea what nbh is...

Regardless, this is a quality animation and one that you should be proud of. (I'm sure you are.)

As the guy below said, you integrated the graphics well into the music and the style of the film.

One problem is that at the end the hand looks a bit too large after he's fallen down...

Also, maybe it'd be nice if the crowd moved when they were in the ring?

Apart from that, it's pretty much flawless.

nbh responds:

no belief halls

A quick project, I take it?

I guessed that because of the opening sound cripped from Y-Town, the length, the less than perfect animation...

It's still a damn sight better than most stuff on this site and I'll be proud if I make something equally good before next summer. (2004)

The drawings look as if not a lot of time was taken over each one. (Although with the number of drawings you must have had to do, I'm sure the animation still took ages to make.)

I like the way you animate both mouths in this movie (or maybe animate one and then duplicate it? That's the way it looks...)

In Frofrog, you seem to concentrate on just one mouth - something I thought was a bit of a shame as you don't immediately realise that there's 2 mouths.

Whilst I said the drawings look quick and that, they still look good and it's nice how you redraw some stuff frame by frame to make it wibble. Nice effect, although not nearly as nice as the actual episode. ;)

Basically, the graphics are top notch.

The sound, whilst you say it wouldn't win any awards (and indeed it isn't amongst the best I've seen) it gets the job done and to be honest the look and sound made the joke almost funnier for me. It looked like a beginners Flash (although it obviously isn't) in the same way that Yoshi's Island looks like a child's drawing.

I hope you understand what I mean as that's meant to be a nice thing! :)

I actually it rather funny the first time I watched it and burst out laughing (the first time since I got up and went to work). (That's the main reason for the 7 and I enjoyed the laugh so much I had to decide between a 7 and 8.

If the voices had been perfect, it may not have been quite as funny.

I liked the ambient music. I'd have liked it to go on forever though after the animation so I could have listened to it a bit longer. ;)

Is that all you? I take it those words are gibberish? In any case, I think the 'music' works well as an ambient sound and it really sounds like an alien cafe...

...not that I've ever been in one...

One criticism - in the button to replay, you need to click straight on the text. You obviously know how to do your hit boxes so I can't think why it'd be like that...

It would be much better if the hit box was the size of the whole rectangle.

Personally, I'd like to see you make more short stuff like this in addition to your big series. :)

Frofrog looks superb but you have a wicked sense of humour and so it's a real shame that you don't submit more stuff.

On a totally different note, I was going to ask you to e-mail me at Scipt@hotmail.com as I didn't know your address. (You don't let folk access it via your profile.) Then I saw it in your movie... hehe

I'll e-mail you after I've had some sleep. In any case, hotmail isn't working perfectly for me at the moment so I think their site may be having problems or something...

McRhyme responds:

This sure was a quick thing I made. I'm sorry I didn't respond to this before. It was just that I was flooded with crapreviews on this movie. So I didn't bother reading them all!

Hope you see you review DF#2!

Strange...

It was mildly funny the first time I watched it. I think.

Didn't make much sense, but I suppose it wasn't meant to.

hthedinga responds:

I'll explain it. I figure out how to get into Mario, but then I can't get out and my friend finds enjoyment out of making me hit myself. I then make fun of anime and kill my friend by punching his head so hard from both sides that it shrinks into nothingness.

Not funny

Despite you trying to put in more than one joke, none of the movie was funny for me.

Your animation and sound was adequate. Just keep at it. :)

By the way, I liked the punk cover at the end. Who's singing? (Also, I can't remember the name of that song...)

Stay funky,
Bez

boardermike responds:

youre right but it was just more a litlle movie that i didnt spend to much time in and the song is by SUM 41 - leaving on a jetplaine

,,,

I watched it to the end, but I really can't be bothered watching through the previous 4 episodes after having seen this one.

The music seemed well chosen and the sprites were well manipulated.

Maybe if I was a bigger Megaman fan then I'd appreciate this more? However, as it is, I just found it to be nothing more than a slightly tiring diversion.

Also, I don't understand who the person at the end is supposed to be...

Sorry for slightly spoiling your chances of getting to be the review crew pick of the week, but ultimately I just didn't find this that funny or entertaining despite the obvious amount of time you invested into making it.

Pikka responds:

You watched it to the end and I ask of no more.
I can´t possible expect that everyone will enjoy my movies, now can I?
I did not like it, but you still voted fairly based on how you thought of it and not just zeros.
I would be really glad if you contacted me and told me what you would like to see, or not to see.
I´m really glad you wrote this and was completely honest in you felt about the movie.
Thank you.
