generally just

++++ cute character

+++ some varied level design.

---- I think the jumps you ask of us are too exacting.

---- response from pressing space to jump higher seems too erratic. Should be easier to understand what's going on.

---- re-doing previously completed levels is annoying.

-- charmless music

==
Tried 3 times, failing twice at the 'hint: they move fast' level.

I liked parts, but it generally just annoyed.

most mod

+++ Mildly original game mechanic.

+++ I liked the various modes of the trick zone.

----- I never felt I had any understanding of how the ball was meant to rise in the speed mode. Sure, I managed it, but much as I scratched my head, I never felt I understood what was going on, why it was going up or whatever.

---- Point zone/endurance) never change, so if we can survive, we can do so indefinitely. A higher score is simply a measure of time expenditure - not tactics or skill.

--- Other 2 modes lack a difficulty curve.

-- Music got annoying. Only realised I could mute it after reading the comments.

!!!!- When I tried to replay trickzone, it kept auto-failing, so I had to restart to play it a 2nd time.

==
Played most modes 2 or 3 times. Didn't much enjoy it.

You disappoint me, donutmasta.

stop-start style

+++++ Gorgeous music.

+++ great graphics.

- It irritates me when people use sprites from Mario, but then don't allow us to jump on stuff, or follow the same rules. It just seems like it has no business trying to be a Mario game.

-- Glitchy movement. E.g. on level 2, jump on first wooden platform and move right, to get to the platform with the thwomp.

-- too much 'waiting' (for platforms or whatever) in your levels.

?? Make jump faster (increase both initial velocity and gravity)

? Give x-direction movement some momentum

==
Made it to level 6 with 1 life, whereupon it jumped back to the main menu screen.

The music is grand and being killed or waiting around didn't seem as bad.

The game's problems, I think, are mainly down to its annoying jump and stop-start style level design. Solve those and it'll be fun. As it is, it's mildly irritating, bar the tune.

If you let me know how to get a copy of that tune, I would love you. Maybe even draw you a picture of an elephant.

for a few

!!!--- music starting before input from us? Don't.

++ Kinda merry music.

+++ Nice, clean graphics

------ I hate the whole concept of battling against random numbers. Random numbers affecting difficulty is annoying enough. Basing a whole game around the RNG just seems spiteful.

--- Only dying lets us know exactly where we can't go. If there was a faint white colour over the parts too cold, that'd give us the info we want.

==
Fun for a few play-throughs. After that, annoying. I got 10s btw.

compete with playing

!!!!-- Why music on loader? Don't.

+++ Varied drums.

+++ We can get some decent beats out of it.

---- beats should start as soon as we hit the button. i.e. hitting the button should be the moment the stick hits the drum. The delay sets it off-whack.

---- limited nature.

==
Well, it's never going to compete with playing on a real kit, but it was fun for a few minutes.

Make beats instant and it'll be that bit closer.

sed all the pot

++++ Cheerful, clean, consistent gfx. specially love clouds (remind me of GC Zelda), moon and stars.

++++ Lovely joyful tune. Spangly and christmassy, without being too much.

++++ When I rose above the clouds for the first time, it was such a lovely surprise! Lesser folk would have just had the Zebra disappear or bounce off the top. You let us glimpse a whole new world.

+++ Intro made me chuckle.

+++ great level layout, encouraging a variety of approaches and full use of the swinging mechanic.

-- Long jump felt rather random.

-- brush-lettering for 'christmas' didn't look too good. The shadow effects and whatnot made it look unlike a scrawled-on addition to the name, whilst I felt it was kinda too rough around the edges to be a change in font to highlight the name.

--- in 'long jump', I think the rock markers should be more visible and maybe go 3 rocks, 2 rocks, 1 rock, to mark the distance to the start more clearly.

? Explain to folk in 'time trial' that puddings cost 1s of time?

?? Maybe some more shading? Could bring the clouds, specially, more to life...

==
Awesome game. Straight from the quick-fire recreation of its genesis, it's packed full of joy.

With your various game modes, I think you've used all the potential of the basic idea without scraping the barrel.

Just an all-round lovely christmas game. Kept me smiling for quite a while.

felt in danger

Played until level 10, 3130pts.

++ intuitive game mechanic.

--- Although in the context of the scenario, I don't think it makes much sense.

-- No explanation for what the power-ups will do. Saw no change in speed after selecting that. Didn't understand what the 3rd option did. Didn't understand the difference between option 4 and 1.

??? on(rollOver){displayTooltips() ?}

--- No pause function. Would let us head off, or just take time to spawn some stuff.

--- Intro too slow.

------ Gameplay lacks variety.

- the thing we control doesn't look organic.

- I assume we would die when green things are all gone. Never clearly stated though.

==
Fairly competent in coding, but it all felt so slow to increase in difficulty. I never felt in danger and just wondered when the game would start getting interesting.

Asvegren responds:

One click on speed won't make a difference, several upgrades are needed. Macrophage makes the organism you control ingest phagocytes quicker. The Megakaryocytes are larger versions of the microbes and produce more RNA.

The thing about your review that bothers me the most is that you claim that there is no pause function. There is :( It says in the bottom right corner, "Press P to pause".

right on first

Got to final question, lost, beat on attempt #3.

+++ Nice to have quizzes that don't continually send us to the back.

++++ Great tunes. Author seems deserving of a quiz.

---- Really obscure.

!!!-- In the last question, nothing is playing.

!!-- It'd let us hear more of his stuff if when we got a question wrong, the tune just carried on rather than restarting.

??? Maybe keep score somehow? Maybe of how many wrong answers we've given? Give a rank at end.

??? Maybe engineer the quiz somehow to ask more than one question about each tune, so we listen to them for longer?

==
I think I got very few of them right on first attempt. Never listened to this dude before, but will check him out sometime for sure.

Good job on introducing him to folk!

Billy-Bean responds:

Good job on making it in three tries. I was thinking about making it go back to the back each time, but I decided to fuck that idea and give people a chance, and only do it for the last one. I am glad you like Bad-Man-Incorporated, and hopefully this quiz will hope him get more of the credit he deserves. I'm going to fix that problem don't worry I just can't now 'cause I'm not at home! In the second one I'll use those ideas, don't worry. I take all reviews into careful consideration. :-) As soon as I can figure out how to work a tallying system I will, I'm just not that talented yet! :-( I'm SOO glad you're going to check his music out!! That's why I made the quiz! To help him get the credit he deserves.
Thanks a bunch for the honest review. :-)

you'd take it a step

++ Vaguely amusing pictures.

+ Works as it should.

--- music is way too long. Should be a shorter loop for this kinda game. Cut down on filesize.

---- Overly limited and uninspiring game mechanic.

??? Scores/stats? (#wins/draws/losses, %wins...)

==
Even with some nice photos, it's still just RPS. I was hoping you'd take it a step beyond that.

Didn't see any reason to play after playing a few times and seeing the pics.

patterns we make

Well, it's really a plaything, rather than a game, eh?

+++ Had fun working out how it all worked.

++ Music was kinda groovy.

--- too limited.

Maybe it should be made so that we only draw when holding down the button? That'd make it easier to place precise dots...

?? Maybe a button to clear the screen? Maybe particles older than x particles ago should be deleted? The 2nd screen I started went slow as sin after some high-speed waving.

?? Maybe colour-selectors? You could have RGB-full control sliders

?? Maybe triangles and circles as choices?

==
I think some of the patterns we make can be really cool and it's all fairly intuitive and easy to make varied stuff.

A shame that we can't save the results though. (other than print-screening).

Could be developed into a fuller thing. If you then put it on a page, where folk could expand the screen massively, that'd be awesome!

Well, fun for a minute as it stands.
