Nice graphics.

The game isn't too great - no offense, but I'd have started over too.

The controls are pretty dodgy and confusing. w and a don't seem to do anything for me. (Apart from when I'm doing special moves.)

I really don't like the automatic jump when you run between the ledges.

To be honest, unless there was something in particular you wanted to ask us, the wasn't much point in putting this on NG.

Well done for sourcing that tune.

It really gets you in the mood to play and the pointer and graphics are pretty nifty!

However, the game itself is far from perfect.

The biggest problem is that you have the button set to activate on(release) when it should really be on(press). That just makes the game a bit annoying.

The structure of the game could be improved, but make sure you change that line of code.

Good luck with your future work,
Bez

Choice games aren't a good idea.

A big problem with them is the fact that they lead to guesswork and repetition.

You've at least solved the 2nd problem, allowing folk to continue from where they died (a most excellent thing) but the fact remains that guesswork is required - for the switch, how was I supposed to know which one to pull? As it happened, I chanced upon the right onte first time, but I tried again and the others kill you... there should have maybe been a clue which you couldn't have missed?

It's definitely possible to make a playable game with nothing more technical than buttons, but this isn't such a game.

Sorry, but I suggest that you either think about it a bit more and try to eliminate guesswork (make the answers logical or have clues) or think of a different approach.

Good luck, whatever you decide,

Thank you for your long but not boring review. Yes there was a hint to which switch to pull: in the room before the switch room, there is a painting with 5 yellow dots on it. In the switch room, there are three switches: one with six dots, one with 5, and one with 4. Thus the choice would have to be the 5-dotted switch. Choice games require you to look around the environment, and make sure you didnt miss anything important. On the next game, you might be able to click on items, like books and stuff, to read it for advice, so be on the lookout.

Horrible controls

Controls are a really important thing in any game. If you don't feel like you're in control of your character, then it just makes the game frustrating and annoying to play.

In this game, the reload takes too long and gets annoying, tiring and boring. A more significant problem is the firing of the bullet - it seems to take quite a while between me clicking and the shot being fired.

Granted, my PC's not amazingly fast, but neither is it stupidly slow. It's 666mhz, but to play something like this, you shouldn't need a beast of a machine.

I feel that had your coding been a bit more efficient and sorted this out, the whole game would have been so much better.

2 problems. #1 ruins the game.

1 - it's always in the same order. This problem really defeats the point of the game and makes it from a reaction-game into one in which progress is as likely to be achieved via memorising the positions.

And that's no fun and kinda ruins the game.

2 - You can shoot someone as they're going back down, they'll bleed (stuff comes out of their head) but then you'll lose. A bit dodgy that...

If the folk popped up randomly and you played about a bit with how long you get for each person, it could be a really great game.

As it is though, it's just no fun.

Hmmm...

Well, your ambitions seem good and when it's finished, this'll hopefully be an excellent game. As it is though, I would advise another person to bother playing it.

2 questions and then it's over. The opponent doesn't ever press the buzzer. To be fair, I suppose it would be rather hard to have the opponent actually compete against you, but still, it seems like a bit of a shame...

What you've shown here isn't enough for me to make any comment on the final product. (The score purely reflects how good this is as it stands, which I feel is the only right way to ever rate something.) Nor are there any definite things I'd point out as faults. I'd really have to at least see an entire round before commenting. I'd suggest that you have the opponent guess after x time and have a certain chance of them getting it right. You could have selectable difficulty levels... Also, if you or the opponent get the question wrong, I feel that it should give the other person a chance rather than an automatic point.

Still, I suppose that's down to personal preference and I don't know if you'd be able to have the opponent compete.

In any case, good luck with the full game. :)

Good effort

I like the way you aim stuff and have it fire whichever way you're pointing.

The speed up/slow down bit seems a bit dodgy - missiles keep on going at the same speed and only the enemy crafts change their speed. This makes it all a bit wrong, relatively speaking.

I suppose it's kinda interesting the way you can use that fault to aim stuff, but it doesn't stay interesting for long.

Overall, whilst it's a decent effort and must have taken a lot of time, what with the enemies and stuff, it does seem a bit uninteresting.

I think it'd be better if it started off easier as well. I think it's too much effort (on our part) to get the hang of and not worth it to be honest.

But still, if you played around with a few numbers this could be great. Keep working on the idea! :)

Worth a play.

Enjoyable enough to start off with but after a while it kind of becomes a chore to play.

I completed it after 2 tries when you first released it and completing it again just now seemed rather boring...

YOu'll need to work hard to keep it interesting when you release the full game, but I hope you manage to pull it off.

Try to have some stuff in there that actually forces you to develop tactics and stuff that makes you approach the game in a different way.

Good luck!

Funny

I like the moral of the story. I read the previous reviews and responses and that guy does sound like a bit of a dick...

As for the game itself... well, it's enjoyable and amusing whilst not actually making me laugh... if you see what I mean.

The script was excellent, specially if you click on the paypal button.

It's a good thing you told us to, otherwise I might have just thought it was a buggy game or something...

Thank you for your review

Your response was REALLY the type of response I was looking for. I am glad to know that gave it its full due, and a well reasoned review.

-Thanks again.

ps. I took the liberty of checking out your prize winning game.......very nice! I gave it a 5!

Practically useless

Your 2nd shape tween did indeed look really nice. You should have told us how to do something like that - as it is your tutorial just seems a bit useless. And kinda mean.

I thought you were one for sharing information... :(
