A great idea, well executed.

As the levels vary a fair bit, I've commented on them 1 by one.

1 - At first I thought the music button was the thing out of place! Hehe... I see it now... but maybe the first level of the game could have been easier? (I think you should maybe have a couple of almost obvious levels to help us get into the game.

2 - got this one after examing everything for a few seconds. :)

3 - got it straight away. :D

4 - eh? How's that circle different? I had to guess, and even now, looking at it again, I still don't understand how it's different...

5 - rather easy. Got it straight away. Although I like that fact. ;)

6 - I actually thought it was the one above... Hmm... I'm not entirely sure why this one is either...

7 - easy if you know it. This one's just a test of knowledge.

8 - Fault - the button doesn't work until you click on 'hint'. I liked this level.

9 - I worked it out with the hint in your comments. The button's maybe a bit too small though? It should really stretch all the way across the screen, surely? Also, you can't press the button until you click to see the hint.

10 - Haven't got a clue. I couldn't even find the place by clicking about. I needed to right-click forward. (I think the left-most dot's supposed to be the button though...)

11 - Well, I got it, but I don't know why it's different and can't work it out...

12 - I liked this one. I might not have thought to zoom in had you not suggested it... Maybe a hint would have been nice?

13 - I just couldn't get this. I don't have a scoob and couldn't find the button by clicking about either. (I think it's spelled coincidence, but the 'e' wasn't a button...)

14 - The hint made this pretty easy. Without the hint, I don't think anyone would be able to know for sure where the button is.

I also like the way the game 'carries' on after that... (I only noticed it on my 2nd go round.)I'll maybe have to have a look at your pedestrian-killing game when it's released.

Overall, it's a well-made game and I applaud you.

I think you have just about the right number of levels, but I'm left a bit annoyed with the ones I didn't have a scoob about. Maybe you could add a control panel at the side in the next game? It could have a button for a hint (when available), music on/off buttons and a button that lets you skip the level if you can't work it out.

Then, at the end, you could maybe have an option to see why the answers were what they were?

I'd really like to know the thinking behind 4, 6, 10, 11 and 13.

The music was rather short and got annoying quickly. I don't think that's only because of the length - maybe the music could have been better chosen? Meh... it's good enough anyway.

It's a good game. I'd like to see another one, with buttons to skip past levels if you can't work it out and buttons at the end to either restart or go to an answers page. That's be even better.

Stay funky,
Bez

MarkOfTheBeast responds:

I also have noticed that some of the buttons are very hard to find, the circles look the same, etc. The reason for this is when I made the game on flash and tested it, the answers seemed obvious. When I submitted, everything got smaller, as it should get, and made the game very very very difficult. Thanks for the lengthy review. :D

Choice games aren't a good idea.

A big problem with them is the fact that they lead to guesswork and repetition.

You've at least solved the 2nd problem, allowing folk to continue from where they died (a most excellent thing) but the fact remains that guesswork is required - for the switch, how was I supposed to know which one to pull? As it happened, I chanced upon the right onte first time, but I tried again and the others kill you... there should have maybe been a clue which you couldn't have missed?

It's definitely possible to make a playable game with nothing more technical than buttons, but this isn't such a game.

Sorry, but I suggest that you either think about it a bit more and try to eliminate guesswork (make the answers logical or have clues) or think of a different approach.

Good luck, whatever you decide,
Bez

beanies520 responds:

Thank you for your long but not boring review. Yes there was a hint to which switch to pull: in the room before the switch room, there is a painting with 5 yellow dots on it. In the switch room, there are three switches: one with six dots, one with 5, and one with 4. Thus the choice would have to be the 5-dotted switch. Choice games require you to look around the environment, and make sure you didnt miss anything important. On the next game, you might be able to click on items, like books and stuff, to read it for advice, so be on the lookout.

Funny

I like the moral of the story. I read the previous reviews and responses and that guy does sound like a bit of a dick...

As for the game itself... well, it's enjoyable and amusing whilst not actually making me laugh... if you see what I mean.

The script was excellent, specially if you click on the paypal button.

It's a good thing you told us to, otherwise I might have just thought it was a buggy game or something...

TheOtherTruth responds:

Thank you for your review

Your response was REALLY the type of response I was looking for. I am glad to know that gave it its full due, and a well reasoned review.

-Thanks again.

ps. I took the liberty of checking out your prize winning game.......very nice! I gave it a 5!

More interesting than before

It's not that hard... it's just about right now on 'HARD'.

Level 2 didn't seem to end despite me getting over 2600 points.

The dark gray ships at the start are too hard to make out and so too easy to crash into.

Apart from that, it's a good game.

But it still needs more work. introduce more enemies with different attack patterns! More levels!

AlternateAccount responds:

Well, actually, if you played Xtended, there are 5 levels, but someone blew a whistle? I'm not sure why?

Hmmm...

It's arguably better than anything I've done, but I'm not too impressed to be honest.

The bullets from your ship move far too fast and make tha game too easy.

You can't destroy the shields.

The aliens don't fire at you.

The game just stops, and doesn't even have an ending message after the level finishes.

I know it's a demo but there's a lot of stuff you'll have to sort before it finishes.

Still it's a good start. Looking forward to the finished game. :)

NGmaster responds:

poop is on u hahahahaha

A bit too long, I feel.

Even though this was really well made and with some top rules, the game does seemt to last slightly too long.

By the time I had finished just 1 game, I was already getting slightly bored of it, and didn't want to start again.

If the game had maybe been shorter, there been fewer lives, or the game been a bit faster (making it harder), it would have been far more enjoyable in my opinion. If it was aimed at children, I can see why you set those things at the level you did, but for me, it just seemed to get a bit boring.

Also, the high score table didn't seem to work at all.

Having said that, the graphics and presentation were fantastic.

But, for me, it still got a bit boring.

Matmi responds:

the time is a bit long I must admit.
The reason the score board didn't work is because you have to play it from the www.monstermafia.com site, as with all the other monster games we have.
cheers anyway

A fun little game.

After reading some of the previous reviews, I was expecting something far more offensive to be honest.

It's a well made game. The way that stuff comes up seems to be totally random, and I was impressed by both the way you can hit the players whenever you should be able to (a lot of these games don't gat this much right...) and the sound, which doesn't annoy with needless music, but does have some funky samples.

The presentation is rather cool, and the only real criticism I can make is that maybe there should be some sort of little pre-loader. Still, that's not really a big issue.

You've done what you set out to do well.

It isn't anything amazing, but it is a fun little game to play.

Incidentally, my scores (for 3 games) were 39,46,41, making my personal best 46. Is this the best yet, or do I have a little way to go still?

Matmi responds:

cheers. some good scores there. I think they other people were just annoyed because it got on the front page, so they expected a masterpiece

A bit buggy. Still great tho'

I played this last night because of your reccomendation. It's definitely a funky wee game, but it seems to still be buggy. If it wasn't bugged, or if I'm being an idiot and it isn't, then I'd give it about an 8.

However, one of the text boxes seems to flash between the English and Swedish translation when playing in English.

Also, when you gamble, when you run out of money the guy says something like 'oh, not enough money', but then you gamble anyway, and your coinage actually bacomes a negative number.

Also, the way that you need to use both the mouse and the keyboard with your right hand is a bit annoying.

You should be able to navigate through multiple choices with the arrow keys and enter.

However, the worst thing of all is that I let a friend play it tonight and in the end, I couldn't work out why he wsn't reaching the ending. He'd done everything that I'd done, but he'd fired a blast at the tractor instead of going to hospital and he'd made a few different decisions with the multiple choice answers. But, in the end, he'd spoken to everybody, and even after he laft, I went around, and couldn't seem to get to the ending. Is this a bug?

It's still great tho'

I'm looking forward to the next version.

raitendo responds:

my recommendation? uhm ok never mind probably happened somewhere down the line.
yeah it's got its fair amount of bugs, I know. But me thinks the reason for your friend not getting to the end must ave been either 1) he would have needed to wait one day longer to make it happen or 2) he hadn't talked to 3 persons about Burgess Industries. yeah that must definetely have been it.

cheers

Good shit.

I see you've got a proper isometric rather than planometric view (planometric being just rotated 45 degrees).

The perspective works well, as does the map which shows where you are.

I'm not too sure about the motion tho.

I'm guessing that you're using if...else loops.

Instead of using the else clause, use a seperate if statement for each arrow. That way, the ball will move in 8 directions, not just 4.

The way it works just now, I find the motion rather annoying.

Good work tho'

Keep it up!

tidily81 responds:

Tanks!
I'm not sure I really understand your "planometric" view.. is this like a square rotated by 45 degrees instead of my diamond shape?
If you check well, you'll notice that the ennemy can go in 8 directions. I volontary block it so it can go in one direction at the time cause if you go in diagonal, it's 2 movements instead of 1 and it's going faster... but I see like you that it's not going smootly, I'm gonna make it 8 directions.
Tanks for your comments.

I like the idea.

I like the way that you've made the panels animated, and although I could argue that the 3 interactive bits are a bit weak, they do slightly add to the overall package.

You need to sort out the end - I never got a password or anything.

I'd definitely watch the next episode.

funnydoodle responds:

well the password is given at the very end of this piece of work... to be exact, the password is awarded right after the credits roll out... email me if u still have problems, i'll be glad to help... thanx for watching btw!
